Erik Poppen

"Hey! I’m Erik Poppen, I work almost entirely with analog mediums and can most often be found with a Mamiya 645 or Pentax 67 in hand.
As a Colorado grown and California shaped photographer, my work focuses primarily on outdoor adventure and travel, though I often explore my interest in collaborative and environmental portraiture.

I thrive in environments where I feel most alive and make imagery representing that feeling.
My work sheds light on our collective wild spirit through colorfully energetic imagery that sidesteps any bystandership to life. As my creative fire is most stoked by the intersection of people and the outdoors, I find working with film essential to my process of staying present and engaged with my work and surroundings — avoiding the distraction of an immediate return with digital mediums.

My lifestyle has been fully nomadic for almost two years now, starting in New Zealand, through Fiji and Asia, and now, as we speak, writing this on a train through the alps from Gstaad, Switzerland to Genoa, Italy.
I have always sought out the unknown and draw so much of my inspiration from the new and unexpected experiences, interactions and environments that travel provides." -Erik
